The HWC Solution

The Homeless World Cup Solution – Philippines

Poverty needs champions, because champions change communities. Inherent in the Homeless World Cup movement is the International soccer tournament that provides a catalyst for change and new vision. The Homeless World Cup builds champions and in that building it empowers communities.

The Homeless World Cup Team is a beacon, but beneath it is a nation.

How big are the games?

September 19th 2010, 64 nations will gather in Rio de Janeiro. We will be one of them; a team of the people.

Seventy percent of the Filipino’s are landless. A large percentage of these landless people are marginalized and poor. Homeless World Cup Team Philippines is the only organization in the Philippines using sport to communicate the issues of poverty internationally.

Our Vision

1.  Form annually a team that represents the Filipinos at the international tournament.

3.  A people’s team that becomes the most celebrated sporting team in the Philippines.

Our Mission

Mission:  Use the power of the Homeless World Cup, an international event using an international game, to bring awareness and opportunity to marginalized Filipino people.

Value Statement:  Urban Opportunity for Change Foundation, Inc.

We believe in a holistic view of Christianity, which requires accountability in all areas of our lives.  We are challenged in societies context by the oppression of poverty, which suppresses the basic tenets of life, including “promoting the general welfare,” which is inclusive of health and education.  In addition, we believe poverty limits the capabilities of individuals to explore the gifts God has given them and limits the use of those gifts to contribute to society, in the way they were meant to contribute.

With the knowledge that poverty degrades “Man” spiritually, emotionally and physically, our decisions and the resources of this organization are dedicated to the goal of alleviating it.
