Michael Quinlat

Father and Mother are separated. I have four siblings. I am the only one not married. I move from place to place. Sometimes I stay with my father’s family, or I stay with my brother’s family, for a month at a time.

When my parents separated I became very angry and ran away form home for six months, staying in a friend’s house. My older brother got hold of me and asked me to stay in his place.

I had a chance to work as an extra in a factory in Magnolia, in a storage freezer, but I could not stand the cold, so I quit. We packed parts of the chicken that gets shipped to Jollibee. We were given hats and masks, but we had no gloves and had to supply our jackets. We worked with bare hands. In a 25-hour shift, we would earn as much as Php300; on a regular day without so much to do I would earn Php120 from 6:00 a.m. to 12 midnight.

My father works as a school service driver in a jeepney. Sometimes I help him load the jeepney, and my father gives me a little money to buy food. Any extra job that comes along

I take.

When I heard I would be on this team, I was very happy. I cannot believe that I will be part of this team. It is very emotional for me. I will do anything to make my country proud.

I think I can contribute to the team, as an example, with discipline and hard play, helping everyone else to work hard.
